Jody Westby to Run CISO Workshops

The CSO Breakfast Club is proud to announce that internationally renown security and governance expert Jody Westby, CEO of Global Cyber Risk LLC and Distinguished Fellow at Carnegie Mellon Cylab, will be running a 2-hour CISO Workshop entitled "Ensuring Your Security Program Remains Relevant to the Business" immediately following the Annual Legal Update Executive Breakfast Series Events.

"Jody Westby brings tremendous experience with global firms to this workshop.  She has seen, first hand, the challenges that information security and compliance programs face when they are not properly aligned with executive management." Bill Sieglein, Founder & CEO of the CSO Breakfast Club.

These 2-hour workshops are aimed at helping our members better position their programs to be as effective as possible at meeting the security and compliance challenges their firms face.

This 2-hour workshop will consist of three segments. The first portion of the workshop will discuss the importance of IT and security personnel staying connected to business units and understanding their current and planned needs.  The discussion will focus on the key activities, documents, and approaches that help ensure that security programs remain relevant to the business, with IT and security viewed as a business enabler that is central to bottom line revenue.

The second segment of the workshop will look at the role of boards and senior executives with respect to governance of privacy and security.  Copies of the CyLab Governance of Enterprise Security Survey 2008 report will be distributed and key findings discussed.  Issues with respect to roles and responsibilities, lack of interest and/or understanding, funding shortfalls, and interaction with auditors will be discussed.

The final segment of the workshop will utilize the Governing for Enterprise Security Implementation Guide developed by Ms. Westby and Julia Allen for Carnegie Mellon's Software Engineering Institute.  This portion of the workshop will look at organizational models for cross-organizational communication on privacy and security, governance responsibilities of boards and senior executives, the role of board audit and risk committees, and the specific areas of an enterprise security program that require oversight.

All three segments will be interactive with the audience, bringing CSO member issues into the discussion and applying them in the context of the materials.  At the end of this session, you will have ground-breaking materials in hand and a better understanding of (1) what activities you can undertake to remain relevant -- and funded, (2) how to get your board and senior executives interested in privacy and security issues, and (3) how to advance the importance of your enterprise security program and get the involvement of business units, general counsels, financial officers, and board committees.
